The Story

Dan Polari discovered his passion for photography at the age of 15, beginning a journey that would evolve into a multidisciplinary practice in photography and audiovisual storytelling. Over the years, he has explored a wide range of visual genres, including cultural events, music, dance, documentary photography, architecture and branding, developing a visual language that focuses on atmosphere, movement and the relationship between people and their environment.

Dan became deeply involved in documenting cultural spaces and music scenes, particularly within the forró community, capturing the energy and collective experience of dance and live performance. In parallel, he expanded his work into audiovisual production, directing and producing visual narratives for events, cultural initiatives and creative projects.

A formative moment in his artistic development came when studying Fine Arts photography at the University of Porto. There he deepened his understanding of photographic history and analogue techniques, including film photography and darkroom processes, strengthening both his artistic vision and technical foundation.

Alongside his creative work, Dan brought audiovisual tools into academic environments as instruments for scientific research and documentation. Through photography, video, and audio, he contributed to new ways of observing, recording and communicating scientific processes, bridging visual storytelling with applied research.

Today, Dan lives in Europe, where he continues to develop photographic and audiovisual projects while collaborating with diverse partners across cultural, scientific and creative initiatives.
